The 48th Pirkka Cycling event takes place on Sunday June 15th 2025

“On the road again”

Pirkka Cycling welcomes you all to enjoy the atmosphere of Finland’s biggest cycling event! Usually we have over 3000 participants. You can choose between three different tracks: Pirkka Tour 210 km, Classic Tour 134 km and Gravel 150km. You are warmly welcome to cycle the brand new routes with us this summer!

Should extraordinary circumstances prevent an event taking place, the organisers reserve the right to retain a part of the entry fee.

2. THE ENTRY FEE INCLUDES

  • Refreshments at the service points along the course and at the finish  

  • A soup meal served at the finish point  

  • Medals for those who complete the race 

  • Start number and annual sticker to keep 

  • Lottery prizes for those who complete the race 

  • Services at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center (showers, equipment storage, parking) 

  • Bicycle repair service (there is an extra charge for the spare parts)

  • Transportation to the finish area for those who failed to complete the course

4. RACE NUMBERS BEFORE THE START

Race numbers can be picked up at the info at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center (Ilmailunkatu 20, Tampere) on Saturday at 15-19 and on Sunday starting at 6.30.

5. EVENT LOCATIONS AND STARTING INFORMATION

The start and finish areas are located at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center (Ilmailunkatu 20, Tampere). You can pick up your race number on the night before the race (Saturday 14th June) between 3-7pm. The event office opens on Sunday at 6.30 am. and the Finish closes at 8 pm. There are 30 cyclists in each cycling group. 

6. PHOTOS OF THE PARTICIPANTS

The organiser may use photos taken along the routes during the events for different marketing purposes. If you wish that photos of you are not used, please contact our office. 

7. CANCELLATIONS

 If you cancel your participation we will not refund your entry fee. A medical certificate (due to an illness or injury etc.) must be provided to us in order to push your participation for the following year. 

If the event must be cancelled due to force majeure or other extraordinary difficult circumstances, the organizer reserves the right to keep 30 % of the entry fees to cover some of the existing costs and the expenses caused by returning the entrance fees.

Participant guidelines (21.5.2025)

PIRKAN PYÖRÄILY SUNDAY 15.6.2025

 

1. Before the Event

  • Carefully read through these instructions.

  • Save important phone numbers either on the back of your bib or on your phone.

  • Check your gear, especially brakes, gears, chain, and tires.

  • Please note: response time to emails may be longer closer to the event.

  • Bib numbers must be attached to the back or the outer side of your thigh. Your number must be visible the ENTIRE time. Keep this in mind when changing clothes along the route. For the 210 km average speed groups, the bib has a pink background. Joining these groups during the ride is prohibited. There are no more registration number plates for bikes.

Number pick-up: Saturday 14.6. at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre 15-19 o’clock and Sunday morning 15.6. from 6:30 o’clock onward.

GROUPS!

  • If one person is collecting numbers for the whole group, please notify the office by 11.6. at pirkanpyoraily@hlu.fi.

  • If your group members aim for the same target time and want to start together, inform us no later than 6.6.

 

2. Cancelling or Transferring Participation

Participation in Pirkan Pyöräily can be cancelled at any time before the payment is made. The agreement for participation becomes binding after the payment is completed. Paid participation is binding and non-refundable under any circumstances (except if the event is cancelled).

Transferring participation to the following year is only allowed with a doctor’s certificate and only for one year. Registrations are personal, but transferring to another person is allowed with separate notice (except if participation was paid with an employment benefit). A transfer fee of 5 € will be charged. Until June 8, you can make the transfer yourself via your own account in the Pace registration system.

 

3. Event Area: Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre

The event area, including start and finish, is the outdoor area and indoor halls of the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre (Ilmailunkatu 20, 33900 Tampere). Camper vans etc. can stay overnight in the parking area the night before the event (no electricity available). Please contact us by 11.6. if you intend to stay overnight.

Arrival and Parking
All parking areas around the Exhibition and Sports Centre are free for participants and their support teams during the event weekend. Parking areas are available on both sides of Ilmailunkatu.

  • Coming from the Tampere direction (via Sarankulmankatu to Ilmailunkatu), park at the east end of Ilmailunkatu.

  • Coming from Pirkkala/Partola, park at the west and south sides of the Centre.

  • Traffic guides will assist with parking. Please avoid unnecessary traffic through Ilmailunkatu during the event day.

  • The parking area in front of the Centre is reserved for event staff.

Number Pick-Up
Numbers are picked up at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre on Saturday 14.6. from 15–19 o’clock, and Sunday 15.6. from 6:30 o’clock onward.
Pick-up is in the main lobby (main entrance). Numbers are arranged in alphabetical order by distance. Numbers are not available at the event office.

  • Sunday 15.6. from 6:30 o’clock onward

Changing Rooms
Changing rooms and showers are inside the A-hall. Access via the main entrance through the lobby.

Sports Drink and Water
Maxim Sports Drink is served. You can fill your bottles with sports drink and water at the event venue before the start.

Meals: Kauppahallin Kotiruoka Oy
Delicious snacks are available both before and after the ride.
From 7 o’clock, coffee, tea, sweet and savory treats are sold.
After finishing, you’ll receive a soup lunch included in your entry fee.

Own Support Vehicles
Use of private support vehicles along the route is not recommended.
Accessible service points for vehicles in Pitkä Pirkka route are at Urjala Comprehensive School and Krääkkiö

 

4. Start Times

In the starting queue, riders with larger numbers may not overtake smaller numbers, but smaller numbers may fall behind, for example to wait for a friend.

Arrive about 30 minutes before your start time. Make sure to allow time for picking up your number and getting to the start area and your designated spot.

8:35 o’clock – Master Cyclists – Numbers 1–355

8:40 o’clock – Group 3 (under 7 h) – Numbers 4000–4400

9:00–o’clock – Group 4 (no target time) – Numbers 5001–6989

5. Routes

Pitkä Pirkka and Klassikko

Start point for Pitkä Pirkka, Klassikko, and HiekkaPirkka is in front of the main entrance on Ilmailunkatu, heading east and turning right onto Sarankulmankatu. Avoid driving past the start area after 7:20 o’clock.

Traffic controllers ensure route safety – cyclists must follow their instructions and obey all traffic rules at all times. The route passes through several urban areas, so remain alert and adjust your speed accordingly.

Route Markings:

  • red and white Pirkan Pyöräily signs

  • yellow Pirkan Pyöräily ribbons

  • ride on the right edge of the road.

  • riding side-by-side is not allowed.

Finish Line: Same as the start, in front of the Exhibition and Sports Centre. Approach from the south on Sarankulmankatu, turn left to Ilmailunkatu, and then turn into the yard toward the finish. Ride carefully through curves and lowered curbs.

This year, all average speed groups in the 210 km ride follow the same route. Joining these groups mid-route is prohibited.

In Urjala, a fjord horse championship is held the same weekend. Expect more horse transport vehicles on the roads.

Hiekka Pirkka
The Hiekka Pirkka route is not marked in the terrain. Participants will be provided with a GPX file of the route, and the ride will be conducted under the guidance of group leaders. The pace of the groups will be determined according to the participants.

Mun Pyöräily
Registration for Mun Pyöräily ends already on 31.5. (Registration for the event day continues until 8.6.)
At the beginning of June, those who registered for Mun Pyöräily will be sent their participant number, medal, and year sticker by mail. The event can be completed any time until the end of June.
To receive a participation record, the participant must send a GPX file of their ride or a screenshot of it to the Pirkan Pyöräily office after completion. Submit your performance details to us through this link.

Bike repair stations are ready to assist. Labor is free; materials are charged.

Drinks and energy replenishment are available. Menu is lactose-free; gluten-free options included.

  • Vesilahti Market Square (Räikänpolku 2, 37470 Vesilahti):
    Water, juice, sports drink, chocolate, cucumber slices

  • Säijä School (Säijän Yhdystie 212, Lempäälä):
    Water, juice, sports drink, raisins

Additional for 210 km:

First-aid trained staff are present.
Please dispose of trash (e.g., empty gel packs) at service point bins.

 

8. After Finishing

Your result is recorded via the barcode on your bib. Master Cyclists have it on their registration plate.
All finishers receive a Pirkan Pyöräily medal. It has no year engraved, but can be engraved at the event office.

Awards:

  • 20 completions: titled Master Cyclist, red bib

  • 10 completions: can buy a gilded medal with case (10 €)

  • 5 completions: can buy a silver medal (7 €)

Souvenirs: Event merchandise is available at the event office sales point.

Raffle - All riders are entered.
Winners listed at the event office. Claim on race day only with bib number. Finishers' names will be posted on the website the following week.

 

9. Safety & Accidents

Participants do not have any special privileges in traffic. All normal traffic laws apply. Remember:

  • Keep safe distances

  • Follow police and traffic controllers' instructions

  • Ride on the right edge of the road

  • Helmets are mandatory

  • Wear bright clothing or reflective vests

Accident insurance covers incidents during the event, if medical care begins within 14 days. Personal bike insurance is also recommended.
In case of a serious accident:

    Request the insurance certificate number if needed from HQ.

 

10. Sustainability

You may return your medal to the event office and donate 1,50 € to charity. This year’s donation goes to Mieli ry (mental health charity).
Choose green travel options when coming to Tampere and the event area.
